Phoenix Sky Harbor posts current wait times for each checkpoint on the skyharbor.com home page, and the flight information screens inside the terminals show them too. TSA's MyTSA app also shows checkpoint waits.
| Terminal 3 | One checkpoint, open 24 hours |
|---|---|
| Terminal 4, Checkpoint A | Open 24 hours (gates A1 to A14 and A17 to A30) |
| Terminal 4, Checkpoint B | 4:15am to 8:30pm (gates B1 to B28) |
| Terminal 4, Checkpoint C | 3:15am to 12:30am (gates C1 to C19) |
| Terminal 4, Checkpoint D | 3:15am to 7:30pm (gates D1 to D18) |
In Terminal 4 you can use any checkpoint to reach any gate, because the concourses connect after security. If the line at your usual checkpoint is long, check the screens and walk to a shorter one. Terminals 3 and 4 are separate buildings, so you need the right terminal for your airline (see the airlines by terminal).
PHX Reserve lets you book a time to go through security, so you skip most of the regular line. It is free and you don't need an account.
| PreCheck lanes | Terminal 3: 5am to 2pm. Terminal 4 checkpoints A to D: 5am to 7pm. Hours can change. |

If you fly early in the morning, note that PreCheck lanes open at 5am. Before that, everyone uses the regular lanes.
Sky Harbor's own advice for busy periods is to arrive at least 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international flight. On a quiet weekday with PreCheck you can usually cut that down, but on spring break weekends and holiday peaks, give yourself the full time.
